Odeon Weston-super-Mare

Built on a corner plot that had previously been the location for the town’s ‘Electric Premier’ Cinema, the Weston-super-Mare location is the most complete example of the four Odeon’s designed by T.Cecil Howitt in his trademark streamline moderne style.

The facade is dominated by a large slab tower that sits adjacent a corner block with large recessed window inset with decorative stained glass. Both overlook a large curved and canopied corner entrance flanked by integrated shopfronts. The entire frontage is clad a mix of cream faience and black ‘Vitrolite’ panels.

Its life as an Odeon lasted until 2023 after it was no longer deemed a viable concern, though was reopened later that year by Merlin Cinemas under the new ‘Plaza’ name.
