Hand-cast architectural model of Taichung City’s now demolished Tianwaitian Theater, made from acrylic-reinforced plaster.

3D miniature architectural model, hand-cast from acrylic-reinforced plaster.
Comes gift boxed and includes technical drawing and photographic postcards.

Commissioned by local aristocrat and poet Wu-Ziyu, Tianwaitian Theater was constructed behind Taichung city’s main station in the mid-1930s with a fusion of Japanese and European architectural styles, and was most notable for the immense domed roof that capped the auditorium – with a span of 18.65m it was by far the largest in Taiwan at that time.

Initially hosting traditional opera, plays, and movies, after the removal of the colonial government in 1945, focus shifted to film and it was renamed the ‘International Theater’. Intense competition from newer cinemas nearby forced its closure in 1963, and the structure has since been used as a warehouse, cold storage facility, and pigeon loft before being controversially demolished in 2021 and replaced by a parking lot.

A note regarding imperfections

Please note that because all models are cast and finished by hand, each model is unique, and due to the nature of the material some small defects and imperfections will be present.

Base heights and colours may also vary slightly between batches.
