The Odeon cinema in the seaside resort-town of Morecambe boasts a rather striking, seemingly nautical inspired design, with its distinctive rounded ‘conning-tower’ and adjacent external curving corridor, reminiscent of a ship’s bridge.
Situated on a ‘corner plot’ of land typical for Odeons of the time, it was positioned a ways out of the town centre, which, alongside intense competition from a large number of competing outfits, likely contributed to its relatively short lifespan, being taken over by the ‘Classic’ cinema chain in 1967, to then fall out of use as a cinema in 1976.
As of 2026, the building is still in use as a DIY/Homewares store, and was granted Grade II listed status in April that year.
