Hand-cast architectural model of the Meinong First Theater in Meinong District, Kaohsiung, made from acrylic-reinforced plaster.

3D miniature architectural model, hand-cast from acrylic-reinforced plaster.
Comes gift boxed and includes technical drawing and photographic postcards.

Meinong’s First Theater was constructed by travelling cinema operators Lin Jinye and Lin Jinhe , who would tour film releases around the towns of Southern Taiwan, setting up screenings in various venues. Business was profitable enough during the 1960s that they sought a more permanent venue and so financed this striking building in the town’s Southern quarter, near the vegetable market and practically adjacent an extant cinema: The Meidu.

During the 1990s amidst the nationwide decline in movie-goer attendance, these neighbouring cinemas opened sporadically to host famous performance troupes, before closing permanently within a year of each other.
In 2022, the First Theater was demolished to accommodate the construction of a multi-storey apartment block.
